Stunning Fall Sunday River Wedding | Maine Documentary Wedding Photographer

There are weddings that could have happened anywhere. And then there are weddings that could only have happened here — at this mountain, with these people, on this specific October day when the maples were on fire and the air had that bite in it that makes everything feel more alive.

Kerri and Peter's wedding at Sunday River was the second kind.

From the White Mountains to Sunday River

I first photographed Kerri and Peter the winter before their wedding — engagement photos in the White Mountains, cold hands, big smiles, the kind of shoot where you can already tell a couple is going to be easy and fun to work with. When they told me their wedding would be at Sunday River, it made complete sense. This isn't just a venue to them. They ski here. They know every run. It's theirs.

That context matters when you're making photographs. A couple who's comfortable in a place moves differently through it.

The Chondola First Look

The timeline called for something I hadn't done before: first look photos at the top of the chondola. If you know Sunday River, then you know. We all loaded up, did family and wedding portraits at the top, and then Kerri and Peter snuck away together at the summit with the entire valley spread out behind them.

They had decided to read their personal vows to each other privately during this time. Just the two of them, at the top of the mountain, before any of the ceremony formality. I've photographed a lot of first looks. That one was different.

After a few tears, we headed back down and over to the Jordan Hotel for the ceremony.

The Jordan Hotel Ceremony

The ceremony was 20 minutes. Short, intentional, and officiated by their friend Alex — someone who's been at their table for years, which meant every word landed differently than it would from a stranger at a podium.

Deep green, copper, and burgundy throughout — in the florals from Pooh Corner Farm, in the details, in the way the fall foliage outside just agreed with all of it. The whole aesthetic was vintage with a nature and ski edge, which is an unusual combination that somehow felt completely coherent.

Golden Hour on the Mountain

White guests settled into cocktail hour on the deck outside, Kerri and Peter slipped away for golden hour portraits on the ski hill. Fall light at a ski resort hits differently than anywhere else — you get that warm backlight through the tree line, the chair lifts in the background, the mountain doing exactly what you need it to do.

These are the frames I live for.

The Reception

The dance floor was packed from the grand entrance until the reception ended. They brought their cats (on huge posters), had shotski's, and changed into light up sneakers because why the heck not. It was one of the most fun crowds and everyone had a blast!

On Shooting in New England

I'm a New England documentary wedding photographer. I do not take that lightly. These mountains, these seasons, this light — I grew up around it and I know what it does in October. Sunday River in the fall is genuinely one of the most beautiful places I've ever photographed a wedding, and Kerri and Peter gave me the full canvas.
