Some wedding days stick with you long after the music fades—and Jodie and Peter’s Cape Cod celebration was absolutely one of them. As a Cape Cod documentary wedding photographer, I live for weddings like this: real, emotional, full of character, and a little bit weather-wild. From their heartfelt ceremony at the historic Kelly Chapel in Yarmouthport to a cozy, joy-filled reception at Allen Harbor Yacht Club in Harwichport, this day had all the good stuff—rain and all.

A Cape Cod First Look Under the Trees
The day kicked off with a first look under a massive, centuries-old tree on the chapel property. It was misty and damp, but the soft light and vibrant greens made it feel cinematic. Jodie and Peter huddled together under an umbrella for their emotional first look, and the photos turned out moody, rich, and full of feeling.
Umbrellas in hand, we wandered the grounds for a few more portraits before heading toward the chapel. Despite the drizzle, spirits were high—and the little moments in between were some of my favorites to capture. This is what I love about being a Cape Cod documentary wedding photographer: telling the whole story, not just the picture-perfect ones.

Cozy Ceremony at Kelly Chapel in Yarmouthport
To keep dry, guests arrived at the chapel by car, dodging puddles and mud in rain boots and bringing their own umbrellas. Kelly Chapel itself was quaint and full of character—intimate, charming, and the perfect setting for Jodie and Peter’s vows.
Everyone cozied up inside, and despite the weather, the atmosphere was full of warmth and love. Watching Jodie and Peter say “I do” surrounded by family in such a sweet setting was incredibly special.

Portraits & Boats at Allen Harbor Yacht Club
After the ceremony, we all made our way to the reception at Allen Harbor Yacht Club. The rain lightened up just enough for a few more portraits outside—this time with sailboats and misty harbor views as the backdrop. These two? Absolutely stunning. They made my job so easy, and even little Artie popped in for a few family photos by the docks.
As guests trickled into the yacht club, Jodie and Peter were glowing—excited, a little soggy, and totally in the moment.

Family, Music & Dancing the Night Away
Inside the yacht club, the energy was buzzing. We knocked out some family formals quickly and then everyone settled into cocktail hour. The speeches were full of heart—especially the ones from Jodie’s sisters—and the dance floor lit up when her brother performed live with his guitar.
It was one of those receptions where everyone truly let loose. The BBQ buffet was delicious, the vibe was cozy and casual, and people danced into the evening. The rain outside only made it feel more magical inside.

A Full-Circle Moment
One of the sweetest parts of this day? Jodie and Peter actually found me after I photographed Peter’s sister’s wedding the year before. Getting to reconnect with their family, see familiar faces, and be trusted to capture another milestone for them meant so much to me.
And little Artie? He may not have been feeling 100%, but he was still a total star. Seeing him held close by both parents throughout the day added so much tenderness to their story.
