The wedding experience

Photographs shaped by the day you actually have.

The people you have brought together. The place you chose. Everything that happens once the celebration begins. My work is to pay attention to it all, so your photographs bring you back to more than the way your wedding looked.

From our first conversation, I take time to understand what matters to you. That connection, together with careful preparation, lets me work intuitively when the day arrives—and gives you the freedom to be part of it.

DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY · NEW ENGLAND & BEYOND

Present for what happens

I photograph weddings as they unfold, watching for the interactions that give each one its character. A familiar hand on your shoulder. Your friends finding each other across the room. The laughter that carries on after a speech. And often, the moments you don’t even know are happening until you look at your gallery.

My approach is observant and responsive. I make considered photographs in the middle of a living, moving day, with attention to light, composition, and the people in front of me.

When it is time for portraits or family photographs, I offer clear, simple direction. We make space for those photographs, then let you get back to everyone you came to celebrate with.

Working together

A personal approach, from the first conversation to the finished photographs.

01

A conversation, first

Tell me about the celebration you are planning and the people at the heart of it. We will talk through your priorities, the coverage that suits your plans, and any questions you have. Your proposal brings the details together before you book.

02

Room for the day to unfold

In the months ahead, I share my wedding planning guide and questionnaires, and help shape a photography timeline around your plans. We talk through family photographs, meaningful details, and the moments you especially want to remember, with breathing room built into the day.

03

An attentive presence

On the day, I arrive knowing what matters to you and stay open to what happens. I follow the energy of the gathering, look for the good light, anticipate moments, and offer guidance when it is helpful. From getting ready through the dance floor, the photographs grow out of the experience you are having.

04

A few things you may be wondering

We will talk through the details together. Here is a place to start.

That is something we can talk about before the wedding. I will give you simple direction, help you find good light, and make room for you to settle into being together. You can expect guidance throughout portraits, with space for your own gestures and interactions.

Absolutely. Before the wedding, we will put together a group-photo list and agree on where those photographs fit into the timeline. Having a clear plan helps us make them efficiently and gives everyone more time to enjoy the celebration.

A second photographer is included in my eight- and ten-hour collections. It can be especially helpful when you are getting ready in separate locations or would like coverage of different things happening at the same time. We will talk through what makes sense for your plans.

Yes. I photograph weddings throughout New England and travel farther for celebrations. Wedding driving travel within 150 miles of Portsmouth, New Hampshire is included. For celebrations farther away, any additional mileage, lodging, or other travel costs are outlined in your proposal before you book.

You will receive a sneak peek within 48 hours and your full wedding gallery in four to six weeks. Your edited, high-resolution photographs are delivered in an online gallery for downloading and sharing, with personal printing rights included.

Start by sending an inquiry with your date, location, and a little about your plans. We will arrange a conversation and I will send a proposal. A signed agreement and a one-third retainer reserve your date.

Documentary wedding photography focuses on the people, interactions, and events of your wedding as they happen. I follow the day with attention to its atmosphere and relationships, making photographs that tell the story of your celebration. Planned family photographs and gently guided portraits have a place within my approach, too.

Read my guide to documentary wedding photography.

The main difference is how much of the day is directed for photographs. Traditional coverage often emphasizes planned portraits; editorial work often involves more styling and direction. My documentary approach centers on observing your celebration, with simple guidance for portraits and family photographs. When choosing a photographer, ask how they balance those parts of the day.

A family-photo list and a conversation about your priorities are helpful. Through our planning conversations and questionnaires, you can tell me about important people, relationships, traditions, and details. That preparation gives me context as I photograph the day, while leaving room for the unexpected moments that make it yours.

No. Documentary describes the approach to photographing the day; it does not prescribe a color treatment. My galleries include true-to-life color and black-and-white photographs, with each image edited to work as part of the complete collection.

Look through complete wedding galleries as well as individual highlights. Notice how the photographer documents guests, quieter interactions, and different parts of the day. Ask about portrait direction, preparation, and working in changing light. Reading client experiences and having a conversation can also help you decide whether their approach feels right for you.

Yes, I shoot both film and digital. My ten-hour wedding collection includes two rolls of film, and film can be added to any package. Explore my film wedding photography for photographs and details about adding film to your collection.

I would love to hear what you are planning.
